Head of Highway Services and Head of Transport and Contract Services
Welcome and thank you for your interest in these two exciting Head of Service roles. They both represent a key leadership opportunity to work within a nationally recognised, high-performing council, in a large and diverse county and both posts represent a career-defining opportunity for ambitious leaders.
There is a real vibrancy and excitement around County Durham and the council’s future aspirations for our residents and communities. We are the largest council in the region and we are committed to playing a central role regionally and nationally. Our commitment to reducing inequalities will be even more important in the recovery from COVID-19 and these roles will be crucial as we adapt and thrive in the future.
In County Durham, prosperity coexists with deprivation affecting health, housing, educational attainment, and community cohesion. Working with partners to address these concerns, increase opportunities for local residents and businesses, and drive the creation of new initiatives to address growing difficulties is the council's major role. Highways, transport, infrastructure and connectivity are key issues in helping to ensure that we support a thriving economy and ensuring that our towns and villages are vibrant and well used.
As senior leadership positions, the Head of Highway Services reports directly to Alan and the Head of Transport and Contract Services reports to Amy. Collaborating with our wider service management teams, you will engage with elected Members, and other stakeholders to shape the future vision and direction of the council. You will also be a key member of our extended management team of corporate leaders across the council. Relationships and credibility are essential, and you will have the skills and experience to thrive in a fast moving and varied environment.
Working together we ensure that in County Durham we achieve our exciting vision for 2035 and build a better future for all.
We look forward to receiving your application to step into one of these exciting roles.
